We usually reply within two to three working days. To get a useful answer faster, please include:
your iPhone or iPad model and iOS version;
the Swiss Hike version (Settings → About, at the bottom of the app);
the name of the trail or screen involved;
what you expected and what happened instead - a screenshot helps enormously.
Please do not send passwords or payment details; we never need them, and we cannot act on them.
In an emergency, do not email us
In the Swiss mountains call 1414 (Rega air rescue), 112 (European emergency number) or 117 (police). The app’s emergency screens depend on network coverage and a working phone, and are never a substitute for calling for help.
Frequently asked
Using the app
Does Swiss Hike work without a signal?
Yes, for trails you prepared in advance. Download a route’s offline pack while you still have a connection and its map tiles, elevation profile and route data are stored on your device. Live information - weather, departures, closures - needs a connection to refresh, and the app tells you how old the cached copy is rather than pretending it is current.
The app never asks for my location.
That is deliberate: the prompt only appears once you have opened a trail, so the request can explain itself. If you declined earlier, enable it again in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Swiss Hike and choose “While Using the App”.
My recording stopped when the screen went off.
Recording is designed to survive a locked screen. If it stops, check that Location Services is set to “While Using the App” with Precise Location on, that Low Power Mode is off, and that Background App Refresh is enabled for Swiss Hike.
A trail’s difficulty or distance looks wrong.
Routes, closures and elevation come from Swiss federal open data (swisstopo, SwitzerlandMobility / ASTRA); some difficulty grades are contributed by OpenStreetMap volunteers and are labelled as community data, not official SAC ratings. If a figure is clearly wrong, tell us the trail name and we will check it - but always verify a demanding route against an official map before you go.
How do I get my hikes into Apple Health?
Open a recorded hike and tap “Export to Health”. The app only ever writes; it never reads your Health data.
Which languages does the app speak?
English, German, French and Italian. It follows your iPhone’s language setting.
Your data
How do I move my notes and favourites to a new iPhone?
Use “Export My Data” in Settings to write a backup file, move it to the new device (AirDrop, Files, iCloud Drive - your choice), and import it there. An encrypted iPhone-to-iPhone transfer or iCloud device backup also carries the app’s data across.
How do I delete everything?
Deleting the app removes every note, track, photo and downloaded map it stored. There is nothing on a server to delete, because nothing was ever sent to one. See the Privacy Policy.
Do you track me or sell my data?
No. No account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no data sent to us at all.
The app is using a lot of storage.
That will be offline map packs and hike photos. Both can be removed per trail from the offline downloads screen in Settings, without touching your notes or history.
Purchases and subscriptions
I paid, but the features are not unlocked.
Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with, then use “Restore Purchases” in Settings. Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, not to the device.
How do I cancel a subscription?
In iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends; access continues to the end of the period you already paid for. We have no way to cancel it on your behalf.
Can I get a refund?
Apple handles all billing and refunds for App Store purchases. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If the problem is a bug on our side, email us too - we would rather fix it.
Can my family use my purchase?
Where a purchase is marked as supporting Family Sharing in the App Store, yes, under Apple’s Family Sharing rules.
Reporting a bug or a data error
Bug reports are welcome and genuinely useful. Wrong trail data is worth reporting twice over - to us, and, where it originates upstream, to the source: trail routing and closures come from geo.admin.ch and SwitzerlandMobility, and community difficulty grades come from OpenStreetMap.
Requirements
Swiss Hike requires iOS 17 or later on iPhone or iPad. Trail coverage is Switzerland.
