Most questions about Own AI are answered below. For anything else, write to us; a person reads every message.

- Prompts, documents and chats stay on your device, so we cannot see them. Attach a screenshot if it helps explain the problem.
1. Devices and requirements
Which iPhones can run local models?
Local models need an A14 chip or newer: iPhone 12, iPhone SE (3rd generation) or later, running iOS 18 or later. Apple's Foundation Models need iOS 26 and an Apple Intelligence-compatible device. The Apple Watch companion needs watchOS 11 or later, with the iPhone doing the thinking.
How much storage do models need?
A small starter model ships inside the app, so the first chat needs no download. Models in the catalog range from about 0.14 GB to several GB; the largest entries are meant for iPad Pro or Mac-class memory, not a phone. Before anything downloads, Own AI checks the model's architecture, files, chat template, quantization and memory against your device.
Does Own AI work offline?
Yes. With a local model, chat, document answers, voice and math run entirely on the device. Only three things use the network, and only when you use them: downloading or searching for models, web search, and Apple Intelligence.
2. Speed, memory and stability
Replies are slow.
Generation speed depends on the chip and on the model's size. Switch to a smaller model (the catalog shows sizes; 22 models are under 1 GB), or set the routing preference to Faster. Low Power Mode and a warm device both slow a model down. Settings › Performance shows the speeds measured on your own device, per model.
The app closed while reading a long document.
Reading a long prompt is when a phone is most likely to run out of memory. Own AI reads prompts in chunks sized from the memory it has left, but a very large model leaves little headroom. Try a smaller model for long documents, close other apps, or shorten the document.
A download fails or stalls.
Check free storage first: a model needs its own size plus a little room to unpack. Then check that the connection allows large downloads (some networks block Hugging Face). Deleting the partial download and starting again usually clears a stalled one.
3. Documents, voice and Apple Intelligence
How do I ask about my own documents?
Tap the + button in the composer and attach PDF, DOCX, TXT, RTF or code files, then ask. Scanned pages can go through optional on-device text recognition. Document Sources, in the answer, lists the pages an answer drew on.
Why is Apple Intelligence shown as unavailable?
Apple Intelligence must be switched on in iOS: Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri. It also needs iOS 26 and a compatible device. When you pick it, Own AI asks before the first request, because prompts and document text may then be processed by Apple, including Private Cloud Compute.
Can I hear replies and talk hands-free?
Replies can be read aloud by local text-to-speech with six downloadable voices, and speech recognition is set to run on the device. Conversation Mode, which listens, answers aloud and lets you interrupt, is part of Pro.
4. Free, Pro and purchases
What is free, and what does Pro add?
Chatting on-device with a daily allowance of up to five messages is free, and picking any catalog model is free. Pro lifts the message and document limits and adds Conversation Mode, Study Sets, the Prompt Library, Conversation Export, Chat Folders, Hugging Face models, importing your own models, Compare Models and image input. Pro costs US$4.99 a month or US$49.99 a year, or is a one-time lifetime purchase, all through the App Store, which shows the price in your currency before you buy.
How do I restore a purchase or cancel a subscription?
Use Restore Purchases in the app, signed in with the Apple Account that bought it. Subscriptions are managed by Apple: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
5. Privacy and deleting data
Is my data used to train anything?
No. With a local model nothing you write leaves the phone, and we run no servers that receive it. The Privacy Policy lists the few cases where data leaves the device, each only when you use the feature.
How do I delete everything?
Delete chats and documents inside the app, or set chats to delete automatically in Settings. Deleting the app removes every model, conversation, index and study set with it. There is no account, so there is nothing to delete on a server.
