Our Commitment to Privacy
Welcome to AI Explorers! We build educational programming games for children, and we built the app so that we never receive anything about your child. We do not collect, store on our own servers, or share any personal information. This page explains exactly what the app keeps, where it keeps it, and what never leaves the device.
1. What the app keeps on your device
To remember your child's progress, the app stores these on the device:
- Game progress: stars, completed levels and lessons, concept cards, badges and Pix's wardrobe.
- Explorer profiles: the name or nickname, emoji avatar and age group you choose for each child.
- Things your child makes: journal entries and levels, puzzles, circuits and datasets built in the Maker.
- Grown-Up Zone data: daily play time and the screen-time limit you set.
2. iCloud backup
If the device is signed in to iCloud, the app backs up the data above to your family's own iCloud account so progress follows your child to your other devices. It is stored by Apple under your Apple ID; we cannot see or access it. iCloud backup is on by default and can be turned off at any time in the app's Settings (behind the grown-up check). Removing an explorer in the Grown-Up Zone, or resetting progress in Settings, deletes their data from the device and from the app's iCloud copy.
3. Camera (Real AI Lab)
Two activities use the camera to show how computer vision works: one guesses what object your child points the camera at, and one reads the shape of your child's mouth so Pix can copy their expression. Camera frames are analysed in memory by Apple's on-device Vision framework and then discarded. No photos or video are saved, and no images are ever sent anywhere. The app does not recognise or identify faces. iOS asks for permission first, and you can turn camera access off in the iPhone or iPad Settings app.
4. Microphone and speech
Young explorers can speak commands to the robot, and anyone can say a journal note instead of typing it. Speech is turned into text entirely on the device; if the device can't do that, the microphone button doesn't appear. The app does not save any audio. The only thing kept is the text of a journal note, and only if your child saves the entry. iOS asks for microphone and speech recognition permission first.
5. On-device AI (Ask Pix, Train Pix and Prompt Safari)
On devices with Apple Intelligence, Ask Pix lets your child chat with Pix about coding, robots and AI using Apple's on-device language model. It is off until a grown-up switches it on in the Grown-Up Zone, where you can also set a daily question limit. The conversation is never saved and never leaves the device; it is gone when the screen closes. Train Pix lets your child draw examples so Pix can learn to tell them apart; the drawings are used on the device for that game and are not sent anywhere. Prompt Safari can turn a prompt built from the app's own word tiles (never free text) into a picture with Apple's on-device image generator. No AI request is sent to us or to any third party.
6. Home Screen widget
The optional Pix widget shows your child's daily streak, whether today's puzzle is done, and Pix's mood. The app passes only these values to the widget on the same device.
7. Sharing
Children can share a Maker creation as a text code (for example, through Messages). The app asks for a grown-up before opening the share sheet, because the code includes the name your child gave the creation. The "Gallery" in the Maker only shows levels made on this device; nothing is published online.
8. Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and managed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive payment details. Buying, and opening any web page outside the app, requires a grown-up check first.
9. No tracking, ads or analytics
The app contains no advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party code that collects data. It does not connect to any server of ours. The weekly tournament's "robot rivals" are computer players generated on the device, and your child's score is only visible on the device.
10. Children's privacy (COPPA)
Because we do not collect personal information from children, there is nothing for us to share, sell or disclose. Everything described above stays on your devices or in your own iCloud account, under your control.
